Paleis Het Loo, Apeldoorn: young trees get a good start

Sustainable tree care in the gardens of Paleis Het Loo

At Paleis Het Loo, more than 600 young trees were planted in 2021, equipped with biobased water reservoirs from GreenMax to provide the roots with sufficient water. Existing trees were replanted with root ball anchoring and aeration and irrigation pipes for extra stability and healthy growth. After three years, the water reservoirs used were collected and recycled into new ones, creating a sustainable cycle. The young trees are developing well and are strengthening the green, future-proof landscape around the palace.

Former royal residence

Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn is a former royal residence that has been a museum since 1984. Visitors gain an insight into more than three centuries of living and working by the House of Orange-Nassau. The palace is best known for its formally designed baroque gardens, the historic stables and the collection of carriages, which together provide a glimpse into the life of the Dutch royal family.

New trees equipped with water reservoirs

In 2021, new trees were planted at Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn. 114 oaks and 533 beeches were planted. The young trees were equipped with biobased water reservoirs from GreenMax. Water reservoirs ensure that water is retained better around the roots. This allows the water to gradually infiltrate the soil instead of running off. This helps to provide the roots with sufficient moisture and prevent desiccation. A number of existing trees were replanted and equipped with root ball anchoring and aeration and irrigation tubes from GreenMax. Root ball anchoring provides underground stability for the trees and the aeration and irrigation pipes ensure a good supply of water and oxygen.

Water reservoir collection service

After 3 years, water reservoirs have generally fulfilled their main task: they have given the young trees a good start to grow into stable, healthy and mature specimens. To prevent waste, we collected the used water reservoirs in consultation with Paleis Het Loo and recycled them into new water reservoirs. In this way, the material is reused and a sustainable cycle is created, in which old products are given a new life and once again contribute to the growth of young trees.

Vibrant and future-proof landscape

The young trees are developing strongly and increasingly contribute to the green character of the area. As they continue to grow, they form a cohesive whole that surrounds Paleis Het Loo with a beautiful, green environment. This growth not only enhances the historic landscape, but also ensures a vibrant and future-proof appearance of the site.
