Quartier Turenne, Troyes: historic city centre with future-proof greenery

In 2019, the municipality of Troyes began the redevelopment of Quartier Turenne as part of the urban renewal programme Action Cœur de Ville. Within the project, trees were given a prominent place in the streetscape thanks to the underground tree pit system TreeParker. The result is a future-proof public space where heritage, climate adaptation and urban greenery come together.

In the historic heart of Troyes, large-scale redevelopment of Quartier Turenne began in 2019. The city aimed to improve the quality of the public space, enhance the character of its heritage and at the same time create more room for climate-resilient greenery. The works formed part of a broader city centre renewal within the Action Cœur de Ville programme, through which Troyes has been investing for many years in a more attractive and greener city centre.

During the redevelopment of Rue Turenne, trees were given a prominent place within the new streetscape. The planting formed part of a broader urban renewal of Quartier Turenne. Thanks to the integration of the underground tree pit system TreeParker, trees could be planted without compromising the functionality and layout of the street. Below ground level, TreeParker provides sufficient space for root growth, enabling trees to develop optimally and grow into future-proof urban trees.

The result is a streetscape where heritage, quality of stay and urban greenery come together. The new trees not only make an aesthetic contribution to the public space but also form an important factor in biodiversity, shade and climate adaptation for the decades ahead. The redevelopment of Rue Turenne shows how even in a compact and historic city centre, sufficient space can be created for healthy greenery.
