Landgoed Hackfort, Vorden: beeches coated with sunscreen for trees

ArboFlex trunk protection paste prevents sunscorch damage on existing trees

Landgoed Hackfort in the Achterhoek is a historic coulisse landscape with high natural value, managed by Natuurmonumenten. On the estate stand vulnerable beeches that are sensitive to sunscorch damage. For this reason, the trunks have been treated with ArboFlex trunk protection paste from GreenMax. This treatment protects the trees against sunscorch damage for at least five years and contributes to a climate-adaptive and future-proof landscape.

Centuries-old landscape with a rich history

Landgoed Hackfort near Vorden is one of the most beautiful and characteristic country estates in the Achterhoek. The area has a history dating back to the Middle Ages and forms a unique interplay of nature, culture and heritage. The landscape of Hackfort is a centuries-old coulisse landscape, with alternating woods, meadows, fields and hedgerows. Old avenues with stately trees give the area a distinctive appearance. This varied landscape provides a habitat for numerous plants and animals, making the estate an important contributor to biodiversity in the region. The estate is managed by Natuurmonumenten. This organisation is committed to the conservation and development of nature and cultural heritage in the Netherlands.

ArboFlex trunk protection paste against sunscorch damage

At Landgoed Hackfort there are a number of large, vulnerable beeches. This tree species is known for its sensitivity to sunscorch damage. Boomverzorger.nl, commissioned by Natuurmonumenten, has treated the beeches with the white ArboFlex trunk protection paste from GreenMax. This paste reflects sunlight, protecting the trunk from intense solar radiation. The trees are wrapped in a protective layer, comparable to sunscreen, which makes them more resistant to extreme weather conditions. First, the yellow primer LX60 was applied so that the ArboFlex can adhere properly afterwards. The ArboFlex paste was then applied using aerial work platforms and climbing techniques.

Future-proof landscape

The beeches at Landgoed Hackfort are now protected against sunscorch damage for at least five years. With this measure, Natuurmonumenten ensures that the vulnerable trees are climate-adaptive. This careful approach contributes to a healthy and future-proof landscape at Landgoed Hackfort, where nature, history and sustainable management go hand in hand.
